Earlier this year, I was blessed to find out that I would be speaking at THE Blogging While Brown Conference in Washington D.C . This two day event was a safe haven of high level blogging information, camaraderie and bonding among the best and brightest brown bloggers in the nation. I had a strong inkling I would find my Greek Life family there. I mean, really, when you think of a group of leaders, NPHC members are not far behind. And my inkling was dead on. Here are a few of the amazing Divine Nine bloggers and leaders I ran into at the conference:
In the past few weeks, America has once again experienced the atrocious aftermath of what happens when tainted race relations, corrupt policing and community discourse goes unsolved. The murder of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and 5 Dallas police officers has reignited our nation’s unresolved racial injustice issues and the backlash has been incredibly disheartening and disturbing. In an attempt to take action and bring our communities together, your favorite Black Greek Influencers have come together to put out a joint statement concerning crooked policing practices, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the role Divine Nine members can play in bridging the gap.
One of my favorite observances is Black Music Month. Not that I don’t listen to “black music” during the rest of the year. Besides, our cultural influence is in pretty much all the major genres. But in this particular month, we get to highlight all the great contributers; our favorite musical movers and shakers of our time and the next. As of late, I’ve been jamming Asia Monqiue‘s Looking Glass EP like crazy. I was wondering how I could feature her in the blog just because, but I was like “this aint Greek related”. But as I did more research, I found out she is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. So here we are….featuring this pretty poodle and her amazing talent.
Sooooo because I love NPHC Greeks with great minds, contagious laughs and random conversation, it is no surprise that Mr. Alex Hanse, Alpha man and Founder of Foolies Clothing, and I connected to do an episode for his Dream Without Limits podcast!
We talked about er’thang from purpose, making your dreams real, how to get through life’s low points, the importance of Blavity, my childhood, relationships, forgiveness, melaniiiiiiiiiiin and so much more. Also, excuse my cough….allergy season is in full swing and it’s making a fool out of me.
Hey Hey Fam! Welcome back to DPTaughtMe’s first installment of Prophyte Profiles where we spotlight bright, driven and community driven NPHC members in different industries. To kick off our fresh segment, we interviewed Ms. Koereyelle Dubose, career/branding consultant and author of the new book, Werk 101. Last week we discussed the passion and purpose behind brand, her biggest lessons learned in business and what keeps her motivated. Today, we’re going to explore what attracted her to Alpha Kappa Alpha, how AKA has helped develop her as a woman, and what she wants future Ivies to know about sorority life.
We here at DPTaughtMe love spotlighting Greeks who exemplify your mission and our hustle! This year, we’re rolling out a few new projects that allow us get more intimate with young, goal driven Greek Movers and Shakers . As we spring into a new season, we’d like to introduce you to our next project: Prophyte Profiles. In this new segment, we sit down with amazing NPHC members who are changing the game and their communities one boss move at a time. So, it was with perfect timing that we ran across Ms. Koereyelle DuBose at her Werk 101 Book Tour!
Right around the time of the 2015 Emmys, I ran across an amazing tshirt that embodied the true essence of #BlackExcellence and #BlackGirlMagic all in one. Coming off of a melanin high where men and women of color were being acknowledged for their amazing artistic contributions in television, the shirt couldn’t have come at a better time. Fast forward a few months later, I had no idea the Founder of the fantastic Foolies clothing line would be contacting me to be featured for his 28 Days of Dreamers Campaign.
